Istanbul University announced that a psychology department will be opened in the “Open and Distant Education” (AUZEF) department. How exactly these psychology courses would be given as a part of the open education system is not yet clear.
After the announcement, psychology students and graduates express their demands under the hashtags #psycholoiacikogretimolamaz and #psycholojiorgunolmali.** They stated that applied courses and internships in psychology cannot be taught in an open education format. In response to this decision from the Istanbul University administration, students met in front of the main gate of Beyazıt Campus on July 16th, at 15.00. Their slogan was: “Psychology is public health. Public health is not a joke.”
