Student clubs and associations issued a statement on their solidarity against the systematic pressure and censorship Hacettepe University Queer Studies Society has been facing.

The declaration signed by numerous societies and associations, including the Civic Space Studies Association, made the following statements: “We are in solidarity with our student friends against a policy of systematic pressure and censorship directed by Hacettepe University Rectorate against the Queer Studies Society. We condemn the Rector’s attitude that disregards equality, human rights and academic freedom.”

A call to the Rectorate

Student societies and associations called on the Rectorate in the statement: “this is our call to the Rectorate of Hacettepe University: Acting in accordance with universal ethical principles, fulfilling your constitutional responsibilities, and compliance with fundamental human rights are among the requirements of a democratic society order. We demand you to abandon your discriminatory and unlawful attitude towards LGBTI + students and fulfill your obligations properly.” Stating that they are in solidarity with the Queer Studies Society, the signatories said: “We stand by the Queer Studies Club  and our friends in their fight for human rights!”
